VALA Eastside annually sponsors two visual artists to serve as Artist in Residence at the VALA Art Center for a two month period. Resident artists are given a stipend of $1,000 to develop their two-month project and use of the VALA Art Center to install their work and run any programs or events associated with the project. Additionally, VALA staff offer support to the project in many ways including assistance with project development, installation, logistics, marketing and public events. The VALA Artist in Residence Program is a rare opportunity for local artists to be paid to develop a public art program and share it with the community.
The two artists selected as Artist In Residence at the VALA Art Center for 2014 are Sherri T Gamble and Gwendolyn Zierdt. Individual program dates are to be announced.
The VALA Artist in Residence [AIR] Program was started in 2013 as a way to give local artists the opportunity to develop and create a project of their choosing and implement it in a way to create a connection to the local community.
VALA Eastside is a 501c3 non--‐profit community arts organization that was created by founders John and Jessica Lambert to fill a need in the community for art venues and opportunities for local artists. The mission of VALA is connecting artists to artists, artists to the community and the community to art. The mission is accomplished in many ways including public art installations, programs, events, and workshops at the VALA Art Center. The VALA Art Center is located at 7303 164th St NE in Redmond Town Center and is the hub for most of VALA’s programs.
